Music at Hatchell Wood
Intent
At Hatchell Wood Primary Academy we believe music is a universal language that embodies creativity for all, allowing every child to achieve and enjoy. Our music curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Our music curriculum develops children’s understanding of the key elements of music. In addition, we work with a number of music specialists that visit the school to lead sessions in drumming, ukuleles and singing.
Performance play a key role in our children’s musical development, combining various creative skills and are celebrations which are shared with peers and parents, both virtually and in school. We have a school and a trust choir which have both performed in (and also won!) many musical festivals and competitions, including performing at the Royal Albert Hall!
“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them – a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.” – Gerald Ford
